ESL Summer Cup II

Last Wednesday we took part in the second of ESL’s Summer Cups, this time using the new up to date Quake Live map pool as well as two new introductions being Tornado and Dies Irae.

The division 1 bracket was much stronger than the previous cup with a wealth of Eurocup experienced teams such as third placed xT and en3my as well as quality mix teams of E-salivating Monstahz (av3k,  dk,  Krysa,  noctis,  Spart1e) and Rhero (Juven1le, ZeroQL, Ana, Dibbe), the remainder of our bracket being made up with Bogatiri, Proct, iP and ourselves. ESL wouldn’t be ESL if we didn’t play Proct (every cup so far) and just like the week before when they knocked us out 1-2, we had our opportunity for revenge in round 1, Proct selecting Hidden Fortress (232-179) and our choice the new Tornado (183-99) both maps going in favor of EK.

Our second game in this mini cup was xT who fairly comfortably dispatched Bogatiri. Xenotorium went with their home map Dreadful Place and EK again on Tornado, with our map first.  Tornado started off pretty well for us and with only 5 minutes to go we were no more than 10 behind, PURRI however had different ideas and with a tasty 10.5k damage made sure we lost our map (158-150), unable to find those last few frags in the dying seconds! Now for their home map which quite pleasingly went frag for frag for the duration and with a mere 2 seconds to go tying the lead for overtime, which we sadly lost (171-164).

As we were knocked out in the semi-finals of the mini cup we had a 3rd place decider with Rhero which was no easy game, we lost Tornado (170-145) and Hidden Fortress (210-174), gg’s everyone.

Rumor has it their might be an ESL Summer Cup III in the next couple of weeks, fingers crossed!

ESL Summer Cup

Tonight ESL will host the first of two summer cups; interestingly the first of the two is to be played using existing Quake 3 maps only, yay! I wouldn’t at all be surprised to see both Campgrounds & Retribution overly used as well as some interesting scorelines.

The full map list for anyone new to Quake 3 reading this is;

- Campgrounds
- Retribution (P)
- Grim Dungeons
- Deep Inside (P)
- Intervention (P)

The cup page and signups can be found here if anyone is interested.

We of course won the previous cup and hope again for a strong showing tonight!

Update: And in true EK fashion we blew out in the first round losing to the French team Proctologists whom we beat in the Final last week!

Proct picked dm7 (Retribution) which they won 204-184 where we gave them more than their fair share of quads due to us not being able to count to 120! Second map was our choice on Campgrounds (dm6), after the early exchanges and a change in tactics half way through we played less red and more rail and took the map 179-142. The deciding map was Deep Inside which we never really got involved in, Proct with some unexpected but nicely timed attacks on Rail being the difference allowing them to take the map 158-142 and the game 1-2.

3rd Place: Clanbase QL TDM OpenCup Spring 2011

EK have placed a respectable 3rd in the Premier League of the Clanbase QL TDM OpenCup Spring 2011. Well played Garpy Q50 raw Kronic Trippy dawg and betija. Some really tense games with 2 and 3 frag difference games becoming an EK speciality!

Thanks to the Clanbase crew for organising and running the competition.
