Why do all euros suq?
|
Tonight we took on Swiss Clan SUQ. The server search was quick, both
clans agreeing to play on crew-nexus.nl server, ek chose cpm4 and suq chose
dm7.
Going off the server search I expected quite a nice smooth game however suq
chose to be incredibly awkward and whiney once we were all connected to the
server. For some insane reason suq’neptune insisted on repeatedly call
voting for pmove 1, which is just fucking idiotic and did so for 10 minutes & in-between calling us noobs and various other insults.
Eventually we started with cpm4, a close start for the first few minutes, some nice RA & quad control later saw us edge out a comfortable lead
to take the map 135-82.
Next map was suq’s choice of dm7, probably their undoing really as dm7 would be our choice if not cpm4, we got a quality start and after the first few mins
the score was about 40-5, then came the cess and 15 mins later we emerged victorious
with another win to definitely secure our place in the playoffs.
Big thanks to Malc for stepping in and doing a good job coaching us at short
notice.
PS. Sorry for the poor pun but as Shane was so insistent
on one, I couldn’t resist.

Don't mention the warp...
|
...because there wasn't any warp. Lag, yes. But no warp.
A few hours ago, EK went top of our Clanbase Opencup group with a 2-1 win over German clan Heinerfest (HF). The server search eventually started once HF graced us with their presence (punctuality rating: 2/5), and the suggestion from the offset was "no home servers". This resulted in a server on neutral ground, X4's server in The Netherlands. Both sides were happy with the server (probably the best we'd visit all night) but HF's attitude changed once they lost the first map, our choice of CPM4. We held RA pretty well, and HF's decision not to cess worked against them as were able to tool up and steal the majority of quads thanks to some nice timing from our Clanbase coach eeatha.
The server search for the second map was a none-started, as HF point blank refused to play anywhere in .nl where we had so much as a 1ms ping advantage. sd's suggestion that we play the next map in Germany and a third (if needed) on a UK server. HF agreed readily, somewhat surprisingly, and chose their own server for their map of dm14. It would be unfair to call the server god awful, just like it would be unfair to call HF's typically German (read: SK) tactics lame, so I'll say no more. They won, and we moved onto our own server itching to play Q3 rather than swim through treacle.
We had a nervy start to dm7, but managed some decent control against HF, who started cessing RA at one point, much to my delight. DM7 + cess = fun, imho. Thx to HF for the games, and once again to eeatha for his coaching skillz. Pld guys! \o/

EK defeat ArmyOfHardcore over 2 maps
|
Server search was a little difficult tonight with aoh suffering pretty bad connections everywhere including their home country of Germany, we decided to do a split server game with aoh playing their map on our server and our map on their server.
They chose the first map to be played on our server, which was dm14tmp. We started off well and took RA from the start, aoh securing quad with us going for battlesuit, with this being the plan for pretty much 20 minutes, some nice tp from ek saw us steal the occasional quad as well as taking battlesuit and racking up the frags in between, final score 100-50 to ek. Credit to aoh for not moaning about their 80 pings.
Next we moved over to a German server where we all pinged pretty awful including aoh, we eventually settled for another apparently hosted in the same building but offered a lot better connections for ek and aoh, until the game started anyway. We felt quite confident going into this map and it paid off to do so, with us taking RA from the start and taking the majority of the quads, a lot of map control from ek saw us take a very comfortable win of 139-62.
Good games aoh!
Tonight war18 made his second appearance in 3 days for ek having played sjr on Sunday night and thanks to eeatha for doing another great job coaching!
Next week we take on Heinerfest of Germany.

Jolt season done and dusted
|
[FURY]Hate: lol, we were thinking of recruiting him ages ago
A mixed ending to our Jolt season, with what I'd have considered buddies FURY pulling a borg on us.
[FURY]Sky: Techinically, since he wasn't in another clan, it's not a borg.
I'm glad Sky can justify FURY's recruitment of ex-iron dust for their last day of the Jolt season. Well the last four hours of the Jolt season really:
|
3pm: | game FURY postponed last week (irony here noted) rescheduled for 9pm | |
7pm: | FURY players approach Jolt league head admin reaper
about adding dust to their roster. They claim they are
"short atm but can probably get 4 regulars". Reaper
agrees, despite citing his own Friday-night-cutoff-for-recruiting 'rule'. | | 9pm: | FURY have 5 players, including dust, on the server. |
For a clan who complained so vocally at the unsportsmanly actions of certain French clans at the end of the Barrysworld season, FURY's morals seem to smack of hypocritical.
At 9pm, we started pro-dm6, with the lead constantly changing hands until FURY made the most of the last few quads and took the win. The second map, OSP5 was a different story, with us locking down the quad/rail early on and establishing a healthy lead, never really looking back.
Our 10pm match against SJR turned into a one-mapper, with SJR having people go to bed after the first map rather than play CPM14 :) The first map, OSP6, was a fairly hefty win for us, with some good quad control (for a change).
Top play tonight from sd, who remained calm when all some of us wanted to do was rant at (a) hypocritical self-righteous twat(s).
Unless I'm mistaken, the games tonight give us a final positioning of 2nd in the Jolt division one, so congratulations to everyone involved this season \o/
Update: [FURY]Perch saw the update above, and corrected what Reaper had told raw (that Fury claimed to need dust or would default) with the more precise events detailed above. He also went on to say:
<Perch> anyway, i'd prefer a minimum of bitterness between ek and fury
<Perch> i concede that recruiting a player as good as dust before an important game is unfair on you
<djuhn> I've amended the news post
<djuhn> in light of that reaper log
<djuhn> hopefully you won't find it does you an injustice now
<Perch> im not that bothered about the news post
<Perch> more the fact that u think were a bunch of cunts
Personally, I feel disappointed that they acted without any regard for us. Bunch of cunts is perhaps a little harsh, but the fact that it took a news post to provoke any kind of empathetic response speaks volumes. From a Jolt point of view, I feel a mixture of pity and annoyance towards Reaper. Pity in that an otherwise outstanding season has ended on such a sour note, but annoyance that he didn't enforce his own rule that would have avoided all this fuss in the first place. In the words of Perch "i didnt expect reaper to let dust play".

Clanbase DM Open Cup versus Reverse Psychology
|
Tonight we took on Reverse Psychology for our first full UK encouter in the Open Cup competition. The server search was a little more painful than we had expected with rp not wanting to play on our server hosted by Thrustworld for packet loss issues (nice pings though) and at one point actually suggested that we should use a foreign server because blowfish's ping was "too low". We finally settled on basic.rip's jolt server, even though myself & djuhn had quite heavy packet loss with our NTL UBR having dodgy routing to nildram. Djuhn's ping spiked to over 100 throughout the games with mine not far behind, as a mocking tribute to our absent ISDNers.
With cunt face (boom) out trying to shag his missus, I asked eeatha to coach for us at last minute who did a superb job and has now joined ek as our official Clanbase coach, welcome!
We started off with our map first, cpm4. A good start for us saw us open up quite a lead until we hit mid-way through, losing RA and not really making much of an effort to take it back. Slowly rp closed down our lead, and we went into the final minute just 10 frags ahead. Running out the map we held on to secure the first win, 83-81.
Reverse Psychology picked dm7 which of recent has been a favourite of ours. Needless to say we played like chimps (confidence being our own worst enemy of late). Reverse Psychology held RA for a good 12 minutes and opened up a 25 frag lead. Determination, a few nice quad runs from sd, blowfish & djuhn and of course my mantra of "ffs you cunts" in mm2 saw us stage a reasonable and match winning comeback in the final minutes for us to take dm7 111-93. GGs rp!
This takes us up to 2 wins & 1 loss now in the Opencup and puts us well in with a chance of making the playoffs.

Firingsquad get fired!
|
We played Firingsquad tonight from Holland in a rather drawn out affair considering we only played 2 maps.
Firingsquad chose dm14 to be played on our server, a tight game up until the final 5 minutes where we edged out a nice lead to win the map 97-68.
We chose cpm4 to be played in Holland, started off tight again, we won the first 2 quads and killed the 3rd, only for the server to crash and leave us arguing on irc for 10 minutes, then fs' announced gunn their 4th player had gone to bed leaving them with 3. They eventually decided to play with their coach after we said we would rather take the default over postponing 13 minutes and as if by magic just before we started they found a player on irc. We restarted with a 13 min timelimit and never looked back taking RA from start to finish with most of the quads, ek win 102-76.
Thanks to Slayer for admining our game & gg Firingsquad.

Pot in racial slur
|
Browsing Clanbase on a lunch break led to this sage piece of advice:
I take time out to do this, to help in the smooth running of this open cup tdm league, not to read ignorant comments from the likes of yourself who appears to be disgruntled by the loss.
If you've read raw's column then you'll appreciate the huge irony that this statement is from 2eX-TheDevil, disgruntled loser to SJR in Barrysworld. Perhaps this comment post shows a new level of maturity exhibited by everyone*'s favourite sugar daddy, and hopefully a full apology to raw is on its way.

CB Open Cup v Blackcrystal
|
A disappointing start to the Open Cup tonight for EK as we took on German clan blackcrystal in our opening game of the competition.
Server searching didn’t take long with us settling for a Dutch server with all of us having pretty reasonable connections.
EK chose cpm4 whilst BC obviously read our minds and picked our worst map to date, pro-q3dm6, with their map to be played first.
The game started off fairly close, with me managing to get team killed twice before the first quad had spawned, we held it together though for the first few minutes but about half way in somehow lost focus and drifted out of the match to lose it 110-141.
Cpm4 was our choice; it seemed appropriate really with us having some fairly solid performances on it lately. We got off to a fantastic start and never looked like losing it with a good 10-15 frag lead for most of the map, some nice work at quads also ensured we took more than our fair share, finally extending the lead further in the final minutes to take us into a third map, ek win 113-74.
After some confusion on whether or not we needed to play a third map we started eliminating maps for the decider, hoping for dm14tmp we were slightly disappointed and ended up playing dm7, nonetheless we have had some convincing wins on this map recently so set us up for quite a game.
We started well, taking RA early on and extending our control of RA out to Mega, around 8 mins or so in we are leading by around 20 frags with RA and Mega locked, a slight hiccup in team play saw us give away RA, BC quickly taking the chance rushed and managed to close our 20 frag gap over a matter of minutes. Going into the final quad we had a 3 frag lead but got cut down as we entered the quad area, not knowing that we were playing with spawn times set to 1 we opted to try run it out but sadly got punished for our mistakes earlier on and lost the map 95-97.
ggs BC & thanks admin.

thwarted by dm6 (again)
|
Our current trend of narrowly losing pro-q3dm6 continued today as we drew with QL, putting a stumbling block in our quest to win Jolt's division one. Our fairly solid cpm4 tactics gave us the victory on that map, but sd's fps issues, QL>sk's solid rail, an absence of ek tactics and a shocking performance from myself has severely dented our hopes of winning the division.
I suppose this is where we call the admins biased, racist cheaters who are unfit to admin, and pull out of the league to prove how mature and well-balanced we are* ;)
* This is satire, and will not actually happen. We know who to blame for losing... coda :)

ut2k3
|
The long awaited release of Unreal Tournament 2003 is nearing now, the official demo was released last night & i have just spent the last hour or so giving it a go online.
First impressions are from my own point of view, is that it should make quite an impact on the online gaming scene, with both q3, cs & ut wearing a little thin now and rtcw being over tactical, ut2k3 could be the game people are looking for in light of a new challenge.
Its similar in sense to UT, movement feels a lot better though, saddly no strafing but back to shitty q2 for some double jumping antics, which has so far left me leaving rather large craters in the floor as i fly off into the void! :D
The lightining gun is a bit disapointing as i can only seem to get it to fire short bursts, i have no idea if its supposed to fire or track like the lg in q3, it even has some funky zoom on it.
The machinegun you spawn with i will take over the q3 mg anyday, spawning with 100 ammo and 5 or so grenades on fire2, it makes quite a mess if you get up close & hit someone with it :)
