Week One
We beat Lost (apt clan name, since we thought they got lost on both maps) in our first game of the new season. Special congratulations to sd for slotting into the team so well and owning hard, and to our ISDNers who sealed the victory for us on both maps: z3on with his mad not-dying skillz (best net) on cpm4, and dawg with his equally impressive skillz on dm14. So impressive that it led to the comment "ek = ogc?" from our opposition, who up until the latter stages of the 2nd map managed to play in the sporting manner you'd expect. I do sympathise, being on the receiving end of the EK onslaught myself: 100% of the team kills were on me \o/

Season 9 Preview on QN
Bigfoot's preview of the season is on QuakeNation. We get quite a flattering write up considering "ek sux". Of rp<, Bif says:
their performance in the FT100 cup wasn't earth shatteringly brilliant, a narrow defeat against EK isn't a bad result but it's not solid Div1 form either (yet, EK are an improving side).

About us:
This side impressed last season despite never really looking that interested in things, they were due to take a place in Div1 but worries about Summer activity caused them to ask to stay in Div2 which, considering we were going to 1 x Div1, i was happy to oblige with. Since then though they have recruited El_Aurian to their ranks and the buzz from the camp is pretty positive, mainly due to their good showing in the FT100 competition where they improved as the competition progressed and had the beating of vGo who they re-oppose here (in 3 maps) and if form holds true they should also place above nV.

While in the predictions section:
This really is a cracking division and perhaps the most competitive in all the league in terms of the eveness of skill amongst the participants, the only clan who i think is slightly above the rest is EK who seem to be going in the right direction of late and who i probably should have ignored in their pleas to not go up to Div1 as they look a lot more active than they claimed they were going to be. They also have a Div1 class player coming into their side so all in all it points to them going up, or at least being in the shake up again come the business end of the season. From what i have heard they think uG* are the main competitors in this division and i would agree now that they have the uG players available to them, EK were not in as good form last season though as this one (or that is how it appears to me) so i think uG* have perhaps the most to do to overcome EK.

There's also an interview with Blowfish, who failed to mention teapots, wheelchairs or dawg's new cable modem. Not worth bothering with really, but if you must it's here

EK Welcomes SD and El_Aurian
Two new clanmates, two old friends...

Firstly EA, who most of us know from CTF and from clan TC. He took part in the recent 100 frag league with us helping with some great results.

Secondly SD, who has been around for a while now and is well known. He has taken part in quite a number of EK games in the past as well as the recent 100 frag league.

Looking forward to getting some games in with you both soon!

Radeon 9700 pwns GF4
Here is a review of the new Radeon 9700 which is 37% faster than GF4 4600 at Quake 3 @1600x1280 resolution.

We'll have to wait to see how this compares with the NV30...

100 Frags Tournament Finished - EK 2nd Overall !
Malc's view on things looked a bit like this:

'First up was CPM4 and both teams went in to cess mode quite early on, but after a couple of quads it was GZD's on top, and they managed to keep it that way allthruout the game, winning in the end 100-51.

Next up was Q3DM14tmp and this seemed to suit EK's style much better, and for a good while (up to about 40all) the teams were fairly even, with EK even taking the lead from time to time, after that tho GZD seemed to find another gear, Deus got all the quads, and they ran out 100-64 winners.

What was to to prove to be the final map was DM7 and I thought that EK had a chance on this map. EK had a little player change (war18 for raw) and for a good part of the game they led. every time GZD would close the lead down, EK would open it up again, until about 65all, once again GZD found somthing that EK could not answer, and the final score was 100-83 for the map and 3-0 for the game.'

From our POV, our final games versus GzD were interesting, but didn't disappoint us greatly. The cup started with us missing a number of players, combined with the fact that following bwdml we hadn't practiced much at all. For myself, although I didn't play in any key games, the highlight was between a practiced GzD with a team including two isdners, with us winnning a controlled game, albeit closely. This game, probably their last match just before LA7. Interesting.

Full breakdown is here.

First to 100 frags tournament!
The first to 100 frags cup being run by The Stranger started tonight with all clans playing 1 maps against 2 separate opponents.

Our first opponents of the night were French clan s9r, unfortunately we could only field a team of 3, being z3on, dawg and myself, after we had eliminated the maps the map we aimed to get we got, pro-q3dm6. The game started off 3v3 as s9r’s 4th player was finishing his tea, it was rather close at first until about 6 mins in when we managed to capitalise on a few decent quad runs and pulled out by 20 or so, Guiguos their 4th then joined the server but never really made enough of an impact on the game to catch us up, final score 100-72 to us.

Back on irc we then had to wait for the next round of first games to finish before we would find out who our 2nd opponent would be, the opponents were worked out on biggest scoring winner plays lowest scoring winner, second biggest winner playing second lowest scoring winner etc. Because we played 3v4 in the last game our score probably isn’t a true reflection of our capabilities which made us second lowest winner, which set us up for a match against our good friends RP<. This was of course the game I had been waiting for. The map was decided upon dm14. The game started of well for us, we opened up a few frag lead whilst sitting at RA, we then however lost both quad and bs allowing RP to catch up, around 10 minutes in we started falling behind, RP lead by around 20 frags but still in RA, as the game progressed it became clear we were slowly catching up, taking a quick glance at the scores I remember it being 72-84, we secured BS and making a dash for quad I managed to lock LG before quad spawned and picked up a few kills and was able to secure the last quad, we managed to catch RP and win the game 100-96, well played everyone, cheers coda for becoming active for this game.

Results and game info updated.

BWDML PROMOTION
Yes thats right, after a pretty average start to the season with lots of draws we made it into the playoffs somehow and last night drew with LL and beat RnF to take the only promotion spot in division 2 to head back up into division 1, the land of sk skillz and french moaning *aAa* kazullamas.

The first game versus LL went ok, it was very close and the fact they had more warp than enterprise yet hit like slpbs didnt help much, osp6 was taken 70-79 in our favour. On to dm14tmp we decided to have a slight change of team, bringing in the z3on *isdn* ! we got off to a very poor start, z3on struggled a hell of a lot on isdn so the decision was made around 15 mins in and 21 frags behind to replace z3on with slpb djuhn! the change was made and pretty instantly we closed the gap to within 3 or 4 frags but never managed to level it, final score was 78-85, ggs!

On to RnF and we really didnt know what to expect having not played them much before hand, in warmup we all noticed they were no where near as warpy as LL and hoped for a gg, we got just that! First spawns went very well for a change and war18 got off to a cracking start, we held onto the lead from the very first minutes and never looked back, final score was 91-105. RnF knowing they only needed a draw to gain promotion suddenly upped the pace a litle and played a very good game, it was teams are tied every other frag right up to the final minutes, we managed to get the last quad & kill their bs and do enough at RA to secure the win and take us back to div1!

GGs and see you all next season!.
