Well spank my arse and call me Geraldine!
I have no more work to do. Yes, I have finished all my exams - all of them went well, blah, blah, etc. - so now I can sit around on my lazy good for nothing arse for two weeks until the 5th Febuary. Owned.

BWDML week 7
Comfortable lockdown games versus AL, who we credit with not giving up, and putting up a spirited performance against a team that was after every possible frag. DM6 was The Devil's first game on his cable modem, and he did himself and the clan proud :)

DM14 was Rekun's chance to play his first league game for the clan, and he seems to be rapidly making the modem -> lpb transition.

Well played everyone... the scores will do our frag difference good in the league. It's good to see that there is now some depth to our LPB squad :)

Something is wrong!
For some reason my news posts keep getting deleted!

However..dont despair, my cock is still far larger than Mr Manandhar.
(thats right..all of him)

We play an important hopefully easy match on tuesday. After checking the RD site and familiarising myself with a little online belgian I discovered they are fully aware of the BWQ3TDM situation. So, we need to absolutely destroy AL on tuesday with the intention of running away with our paltry 7 frag difference.

Since we now have a starting lineup of 6 players perhaps we should discuss here which 4 to play :).

dribble.
In the middle of exams. Not going too well.

aarrgh.

Carl is a pedantic cunt who thinks he is really good at ctf even though the standard of deathmatch skills on that mod is rather low.

ClanWars RA3
Still no news about replacement servers for the ClanWars Rocket Arena 3 League. I know a lot of ek don't care too much for Rocket Arena, but it is a shame when a League has to go on hold (maybe even cancelled) because it hasn't access to any servers. I know ClanWars had a few problems, but it was a new league and so who knows what they could have acheived later on.

Anyway, topic of their irc channel is "RA3 Season on hold due to lack of servers - if you need to contact us use our forum, link at our website" set Friday 12th January. So I am guessing (and it doesn't take much in the way of a leap in imagination) that Monday's match against Kudos will not be on.

MUhhahaha
Devil has cable finally. I have something far more cool.

Currently shipping towards me slowly from america is a brand new boomslang 1000.

Yes my little children...TWO! Soon I will have 2 new boomslangs plugged into my pc. I have decided to paint a number on each..so I dont get confused. (muahahah)

I tried jeo's cordless mouse and was impressed..but that was on a cloth pad. I need to buy a new mouse to add to my impressive collection..preferably optical. Any ideas? Bear in mind I hate wedge ('ergonomic') crap mice.

EK Take The Lead
In case you hadn't seen :) http://leagues.barrysworld.com/bwq3l/dm/div3a.shtm

Week 1 RD beat brother, Week 2, 3, 4, 5 RD default win against PO4,FA,KIL,AL, Week 6 they played us. 4 default wins giving a frag difference of 600! Then..

Week Us Them
7. KIL* XPD
8. DV+ VS
9. XPD KLS**
10. VS FS
11. FS MIB

*(probably default?) Going by their past record..
**(default)
+(about the same standard as brother) As they drew with them..

We both have games against VS, XPD and FS. Which leaves us with KIL and DV, and them with KLS(default) and MIB. So we have a roughly similiar line-up ahead.

League restart
After a long month of not playing Quake, EK returned to TDM to play what could be the deciding games of the season versus the Belgian clan RD. Since we were out of practice, we asked our friends at Kudos to give us a couple of practice games on dm7 and on mexx1. We thank them for a useful practice and the chance to exorcise a few Clan-Wars demons :)

In the BW game, we were surprised to be playing mexx1 first, and even more surprised at our semi-comfortable 108-76 victory on a map where tactics are made difficult by the lack of health packs. Unfortunately, a mixture of feeling complacent, nerves, shite play from us and some mad plasma skillz from RD meant we lost dm7 by a lousy 7 kills, meaning we split the points for the game in the league.

Played everyone.

If...(with apologies to Rudyard Kipling)
You can run along a platform,
While rockets are exploding beneath your feet,
And still keep your health,
You're using Point Release 1.27!

Yes, Quake ]|[ Arena v.1.27g is now with us for better, for poorer, in sickness and in health. Therefore, we have to get used to it. Lots of suggestions for tweaking that ever important custom config are floating around, mouse tweaks, graphics tweaks, even sound tweaks - to get rid of the doppler sound of rockets, which you either love or loathe. I am afraid, however, I cannot get into the spirit of the thing.

I had a nice setup under 1.17, my settings were just about right - every now and then I'd make tiny alterations like more comfortable keybinds. It also worked fine with my rather unusual cordless setup. I use a Logitech cordless desktop which I adore - the freedom is brilliant and the extra weight of the batteries makes the mouse better balanced (IMHO). However, ever since installing 1.27g I have had problems - unresponsive mouse when using the keyboard a lot. I have reinstalled (plugged back in) my old Logitech MouseMan Wheel (spot the consistancy in whose equipment I buy!) and this time into the PS/2 port to take full advantage of the higher report rate. As yet, I don't think that has fixed the problem (tho' to be honest I haven't tested it that much.) This could be a problem with the reciever (I have now moved further away any possible sources of interference) tho' I doubt it. My cordless desktop worked fine under 1.17. Oh, well - it could just be a coincidence, but I am not particularly happy that id keep on insisting on pissing around with Q3. By all means they should release patches to fix bugs - tho' I am starting to get very tired of this habit to release buggy software because the internet makes it very easy to patch it - hasn't anyone heard of getting it right first time? Take Microsoft for example....well, that's another column entirely!

1.27g is more than a bug fix patch, tho', and unlike previous ones it does not seem to have added any obvious significant positive changes to the game. 1.16 did with the ability to create Mods, thereby making it possible for games designers to use the power of the Q3 engine without having to release a full game - just look at the popularity of OSP and Rocket Arena 3 - all mods and game modes that would not have been possible without the ealier Point Releases. It makes changes to the fundamental game - I know most of this has already been said when 1.27 was first released (lots of bitching) but now servers are starting to upgrade (Barrysworld did last weekend) so now we are being forced to use it. I remember when 1.17 was released, the main complaints were that some servers had updated and others hadn't, there were no complaints (or so few they must have passed me by) about changes to the games dynamics. The trouble with 1.27g is that it smacks too much of id prepping the way for Team Arena. They want to use 1.27 physics in TA and so are more or less forcing us to use it in Q3A, I can think of no other reason for them to release 1.27 in whatever incarnation - everyone seemed happy with 1.17 and all they have managed to do is annoy lots of Q3A fans.

Well, anyway, I am sure I will get used to 1.27g in the end - that is if I can actually get my mouse and keyboard to work together at the same time (I do not want to have to plug my old keyboard back in so that I can play Q3A, tho' luckily (if it comes to that) it is still with me at Uni. Oh, yes, I am sure I will get used to 1.27g - but I reserve the right to complain and bitch about it while doing so, and next time id are thinking of releasing another pointless point release, remember - all it takes for evil to succeed is for good to stand by and do nothing.

Take care of yourselves...and (frag) each other. :)
