Leaked Q4 Concept/Rendering Images
|
Well it seems some Q4 artwork and renderings have been leaked, either accidently by id/raven themselves or by one of the partner companies (/me remembering the ATI source of Doom3 Alpha). One story is 'allegedly after being taken from a company network by hackers', but the cynic in me can't help thinking about the positive publicity that this causes.
Needless to say, the images, which of course I only saw thirdhand or was only accurately described by a street artist, are very impressive. There's definately a Q2 feel to them, and the level of rendering detail is scary. Whether these are intended for the Q4 movies or for the actual game is hard to say. I suspect for some of them they are only intended for the movies.
id has warned about retribution over the reprinting of any of these images here.. The article also reminds us that No firm date for the launch of the game has yet been set, but it is not expected until Mid '04 at the earliest., which I guess, (*sigh*) might mean we don't even get a beta/demo/test until early 2004 perhaps.
Whether the game is going to be good or not, is impossible to say. Whether Raven take a firm line about focusing on gameplay, rather than only the visuals (obviously given that they use the id engine whatever), will be interesting. A lot would argue that simply taking the quakeworld physics and netcode and strapping on the Q4 rendering engine (Tenebrae?) would make an awesome game, but it is more than likely Raven may try to slow the game right down for the sake of rendering on slower machines.
The association with Q2 is something which uneases me slightly since I never really liked the game when it came out - although seeing it since on a proper config suggested I might have been too quick to judge. Even so, with a start date so far off, and with everyone's hardware probably still severely under-spec, I would suspect that Q3 has no successor for a while. Although some get disheartened with Q3, a lot of their dislikes of the game are problems inherent to online gaming, and often one problem is only succeeded another.

Q3 GUID clients database

Unveiled temporarily (limited time only non-site members access!), a shorter version of our GUID unalias DB will be available to use for the general public (only about 55000 aliases in that one)
Enjoy :)

EK`s public ET server changes
|
Heya all. As most of your probably already know, we have a server running on elitekillers.net:27960. I have added two new maps today, Trainyard and Silly CTF. However, the campaign has not been created just yet...
Currently, the server is set to run the 'EK campaign', which consists of a 7 map cycle:
maps "oasis;rhine;railgun;battery;radar;fueldump;goldrush"
In order to be able to see campaign progress, make sure you have cl_allowdownload 1 to get ekcampaign.pk3 which describes it and shows it correctly on the map load screens.
The 2nd map in the rotation is 'The Rhine Bridge', download it from our files page and put in your etmain directory.

As pointed out by raw on IRC, there's some amusing photoshopped ET images on this forum thread.

Welcome to St. James`s club
|
I am pleased to announce that our Gentlemen's Club is now open for business. You can browse through the images currently online, post comments on each and every one of them, or even upload new ones (any site members, need to be logged in).
Obviously, use your judgement as to the type of images you upload, nothing too obscene, I hope. I'd hate to have to spend time policing it or close it up for clan members only. So have fun and share the wealth :)

Silly CTF!
|
Yep you're wondering why I've posted CTF in the ET page.. well duh!
Someone from the JOLT enemy territory forums called "Lanz" has created a map based on CTF, where you have to capture the gold! Both teams with the same objective.
Map can be downloaded here.
I would like to try this as it could prove good fun, I saw a screenshot and it looks promising, might see if coda will give it a demo run on ek server tonight!
